Porsche: The Best Sports Cars in the World?

In 1963 it was the Porsche 911 that set the tone for the Porsche manufacturer for the next fifty plus years. With its sloping back, distinctive circular headlights, and slanted windscreen the Porsche 911 is the world’s best-loved sports car. This is a vehicle that is as enduring of the Porsche brand as is the Rolex watch. The Porsche 911 may have had humble origins, having descended from the Volkswagen Beetle.

Porsche as a car maker emerged in post-war Germany, but prior to the war the founder of Porsche, Ferdinand Porsche, actually designed the Beetle. It was in the late 1940s that the brand put a Beetle derived Porsche 356 on the market, giving Porsche a firm hold in the industry. The demand in the 1950s became such that a successor to the 356 was needed. Porsche engineers worked for years to come up with a prototype to reveal to the world and in 1963 they revealed the Porsche 911 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, though it was called the 901.

The Porsche 901 name was changed to 911 because Peugeot had claim on the right to name all three digit model vehicles with a zero in the middle. Since the introduction of the first 911 the basic design has changed very little over fifty years. Any two models can be lined up and the same unique shape is easily recognisable. The changes that have occurred through the years relate to a lengthened wheelbase, a windscreen that is tilted back a few degrees more, and spoilers and bumpers that have been added or taken away. However, the overall silhouette of this classic sports car remains the same.

"Other post"

While the outside shape has changed little, the interiors have evolved through the years with obvious technical advances. Despite these changes, the one basic element of the Porsche 911 interior has remained as a part of its identity. This is the set-up of the engine compartment. It is a counter-intuitive set-up with the flat-six engine being located over the rear axle and driving the rear wheels. This Porsche brand as a whole, like the 911, is like nothing else.

Porsche, as specialist cars, can sometime be difficult to sell. When it comes time to sell your vehicle, a good first course of action is to consult an online car buying service such as The Car Buying Group. With decades of experience in specialist cars (particularly Porsche) they are able to accurately appraise vehicles and offer fair and realistic prices without the hassle of a conventional private sale.

Porsche sports cars have become design icons in part because they are aesthetically successful; they are attractive to the eye. However, the amazing part of the design is the harmony of the concept which is design follows function. The distinctive idiom and contours of a Porsche is immediately recognisable. The roofline, the wings, and the powerful shoulders are all features that can be found in every Porsche model as they have been reinterpreted in their own era and character. People love these cars for their look, their functionality, performance, everyday usability, exclusiveness, and social acceptance. The Porsche brand is a tradition with strong ideals, values, and philosophies that inform the principles, which have made it arguably the maker of the best sports cars in the world.

Used Cars And Cheap Prices

Nowadays, it’s been seen that many individuals prefer opting for a used car, or a secondhand car, for the following two factors:

Financial status

Better entity at a cheaper rate

Cars can be bought by any person but picking up a good secondhand car from a dealer will be possible only if the individual is alert and knowledgeable about details, and nuances of buying a used car. Cars can be found through local dealers, and online dealers and stores. The choice is up to the buyer.

Buying used cars is popular because many people find it difficult to pay a huge upfront amount when they buy a new car. This factor is addressed by making use of banks and financial institutions that give loans. There are some cases wherein, loans are not paid back, resulting in repossessing or claiming of the car by the concerned institution.

There are many such cars and vehicles that end up with these banks and financial institutions. These claimed cars are sold off to make up for the money that was lost or owed, keeping in mind the loan criterion. Such sales take place immediately after the car is repossessed and at such times it’s not surprising to see people congregating to buy a car that’s within their price range. At such times, people are lucky to get fairly new cars that have been used sparingly, and thus avoid hassles related to the offers and fraudulent schemes of dealers and agents.

This requires planning. You need to decide before hand the type of car that you would like to buy. You can log onto the internet to check out car deals or you can also pay a visit to the nearest local dealer to get an idea of the car features, as well as, the probable cost that you should expect.

With the western countries it is possible for individual to get accident information from a lawyer pertaining to certain vehicles by simply entering their vehicle identification numbers into a pre programmed system. Details other than accident information like mileage as well as the number of times that the car has undergone re fabrication can also be got from these sites.

Before buying the car it is imperative that you take a test drive to make sure that the overall engine condition as well as transmission is in order. It is no use buying a car and then spending to re-fabricate and do up the engine part of the vehicle.

Taking along a trusted mechanic or a friend will help you check various fine-points and help finalize your decision. Research before you decide to buy a car from a select store or dealer, since prices vary from store to store, and dealer to dealer. Research will help you save money some time or the other.

Secondhand, or firsthand a car is a car and care should be taken to choose the best one. Used cars can be quite a boon for those who’re on the lookout for something cheaper, but a bane for those, who don’t find out enough before investing in a defunct vehicle.

Used Cars - Tips To Buy

Here are a few tips that will keep you on your toes when you decide to buy a second hand car.
Firstly buyers should keep in mind that second hand cars or used cars should be looked at under good lighting preferably white light. They are nothing like green cars these days, not good for the environment. The sun is the greatest and largest source of white light, and so, it’s imperative that the car will look its best or its worst under the glare of sunlight. Going over body work in the rain is not advisable as the climate tends to get the better of your mindset, and you will concentrate on aspects that are mundane, and fail to catch the real problems in turn.

Using sunlight to check out the exteriors of the car is a very good ploy if you want to pick out deformities in the body work. Glare and reflection from sunlight on the car panel, and doors will help determine the number of dents, as well as, paint jobs that the car has gone through. Technically a good buyer will always look at the window rubbers to check for signs of over spray and whitening. These two signs show that the car has undergone body work. Panels out of alignment will show that the car has been in an accident or other mishaps. Panel alignment must be looked for at the front, as well as, rear of the car.

Bonnet to windshield, and, rear windshield to bumper, are the two spots where extensive paneling is required in case of an accident. Doors should also be checked for signs of dents and re-fabrication. In most cases, it’s been seen that in cases of shoddy body work, fillers have been used extensively. Using a magnet to rule out the possibility of fillers is a good way to make sure that the car has no recent shoddy body work done. Simply place the magnet on the door of the car and move it about the surface, it will stick to the metal but will fall off in case it comes in contact with filler.

Check the interiors. Interiors include the trip meter and odometer, speedometer, seats, system if any, as well as, the clutch, accelerator, and brake pedal. Check the condition of the pedals, especially the accelerator pedal as signs of frequent wear and tear can point out to a bad mileage factor. Check tires. Unbalanced wear and tear of tires can indicate that wheel alignment is not up to the mark, or it can also indicate a twisted chassis.

Test-drive the car and keep your ears open for knocking sounds, as well as, groans from the engine, and chassis. During this time check gear box function to rule out possibility of a faulty transmission line. Check the engine, and lookout for faulty and broken seals, as well as, factors like oil, coolant and piping.

Following these rules will enable you to buy a car that’s used but worth the money you’re spending, because you really don’t want to get stuck with a vehicle that needs to be looked at by a mechanic every 2nd day, causing anxiety, and drilling a hole in your pockets.

negotiate-better-price-for-auto-repairs

Believe it or not, there is an industry out there that specifically looks out on and actually promote auto repairs.

Such a racket is not only unethical, it is also inappropriate and unnecessary. Still, there are those who do it – for the sake of one reason and one reason alone --- money.

The following are discovered and frowned upon scams that have been already charged. Yet they do still require your utmost attention. Read on and be aware as well as be wary so as to not be a victim further from such rip-offs.

The repair scare

It was in 1992 when people discovered and got scared when everyone learned that the Auto Center at Sears were actually promoting, and even made it an actual competition among its staff, the number of any additional car repairs that came in to the extent that the one who was able to gather in the most car repairs was declared as a quota winner.

Though Sears, at first, did not want to admit it. Sears was actually giving out commissions and even established contests, declaring as a winner anyone who were able to bring in the most auto repairs. This discovery became even more shocking when it was learned that the prizes for such contests even included a cruise and ten thousand dollars in cash.

When Sears was confronted with the issue, their claim was that the repairs they do were
merely measures that were done in order to prevent any other car faults. Although they did later admit their mistakes and agreed to fork up a total of eight million dollars in order to settle the charges filed against them in California. The damage has been done though, and the impression created by such allegations is enough to make anyone suspect any auto repair shop as similarly engaging in such an illicit trade.

Thankfully, they were able to make amends to a total of nine hundred thousand of their customers. Plus, they no longer were using commissions, quotas and contests to promote car repairs.

However, there may still be instances wherein large chains of auto repair shops still resort to advertisements that deceive or there may be auto shops that engage in fraud. There may still be shops out there which replace good auto parts with faulty ones.
Investigations done undercover as well as lawsuits have been filed against such chains. Still, it does help being alert and aware.

Caught in the act

In 1999, a television station in Los Angeles made undercover discoveries at auto repair shops - including those from Goodyear, Purrfect Auto, Pep Boys – wherein repairs were done and recommended on cars that did not need any repairs.

In 1998, it was known there have been ninety auto repair shops found in five counties in which forty percent of these sold services and provided car repairs that were unnecessary. These shops even charged its customers services and repairs that were never even done!

Such shops were named as Midas Muffler and Brake Shops, Purrfect Auto Service, Econo Lube N’ Tune as well as Tuneup Masters.

All in all, it helps to know such information in order to not be a victim of such unscrupulous methods. Awareness and alertness is important. It also helps if one searches through the internet and learn how good or how bad a particular auto repair shop’s record is. Knowledge is power.
